The Summer Palace to the north west of the city, is an immense pleasure dome, where the Emperors and their court came in the summer time to escape the roasting city. This is the entrance gate.
All gates and doorways have a step which I wanted to show you as here. It was to keep out ghosts!
This is a mythical creature, the quilin, with parts from several animals and fish which was appeared on earth only at times of harmony.
