The former Jewish Ghetto

If you saw the film 'Schindler's List' then you will know about the horrific treatment of the Jews in Warsaw by the Germans in WWII. By 1942 over 300,00 Jews had been exterminated. After the Warsaw uprising in 1943 the ghetto area was razed to the ground. This monument is one of the important memorials to the Jews who perished.
The monument was erected in 1948 while the city still lay in ruins.
