in St Fin Barre's Cathedral, Cork. Monday, March 26th. We played Symphony No 8 by Hayden, Elgar's Serenade for Strings, Poulenc Flute Sonata with Patricia Moynihan and Beethoven's Symphony No 8. These are George's photos taken from the gallery. Our guest conductor was Fergus Sheil.
The Cork Chamber Orchestra went on tour to Galway at the weekend for some intensive relaxation (practising with our guest conductor, Fergus Sheil, was why our leader Adrian Petcu thought we were there!) Read on (backwards) to find out how it all went....
in Galway, built in 1320, is most interesting. It has memorials to soldiers who were killed in action in far flung places and lots of interesting items and information going back through the centuries. It is where the orchestra gave its Sunday afternoon recital to a small but appreciative audience. Given that this was the first dry, bright Sunday this year - even since last October - I dont blame anyone for not coming indoors!
... OF COURSE we found a golf club. Did you think we wouldn't??? Built in a bog, its an amzing place, with a HUGE clubhouse! George played nine holes here on Saturday while I was at rehearsal. He lost about 6 golf balls and found 8! The 'fairways' were very wet and the ball plugged deep each time.
